I agree with the asking thing - I got a job as a radio journalist/newsreader once - on a trial commercial station - simply by calling and asking, 'Hey, do you need a newsreader by any chance?' I expected them to say no, but it turns out they DID need one - and I got two months of priceless experience. If I want something, I just ask - it sounds simple, but I know people who wouldn't dare pick up the phone and ask someone a question because they think it sounds cheeky! Congrats!
